"Food for the Soul"
Tours
of the St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral will be offered throughout the
Weekend. These tours will highlight the beautiful Byzantine architecture
and iconogrpahy of the Church and introduce the traditions and customs of
this 2,000 year-old Christian Church founded by the Apostles.
The
tours are offered every 1/2 hour Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Inside the Church, you will see incredible icons mosaics, and beautifully
carved wooden pieces that are used in the daily services of our Church.
An opportunity to ask questions and see these features up close will also
be available.
Iconography
"Windows to Heaven"
A
brief explanation of the importance that this form of religious
art plays
in the life of an Orthodox Christian and why it has
survived 2,000 years.
There
is an exhibit that discusses the meaning of the icon screen
and its purpose
in the Church. Also, displayed and explained are
the icons of Christ and Mother
Mary and Orthodox saints. Come
and learn about this ancient and inspiring
religious art.

of the Church
"Celebration of Orthodoxy"
The
Saint George Cathedral Choir invites you to a concert inside the Cathedral
at 4:00pm on Saturday. This 30 minute concert, called "The Celebration
of Orthodoxy," will include selections from the celebration of the Resurrection
(Pascha) and other hymns heard throughout the liturgical year. We hope you
can find time in your enjoyment of our Greek culture to come and hear the
beauty of this ancient music.
