The wonder working powers of the icon were reported to heal the sick. In this icon, the Virgin Mary and the Christ child, the semantically important characters, are separated from the earthly figures in an aura of light, depicting a heavenly space. The archangels protect the infirm as they pray to the Virgin to intercede on their behalf to Christ.
