Heroes

Every work, which does not have love as its beginning and root, is nothing….whoever bears fruit with works of faith and love, he is a real disciple of Christ.” – St. John Chrysostom

What is a hero? a person of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his/her brave deeds and noble qualities.

Who are your heroes?

Who are heroes of our church? The Saints

In Orthodoxy, we have many great examples of Heroes. In fact, these Heroes (The Saints) were faithful to GOD. They trusted in Him, just as we should trust in Him. Their love for God helped them to push away their fears and stand up for Him and for what was right,. All the Saints came from different backgrounds. Some were rich, others were poor. Some came from royal families others were peasants. They all had one great thing in common, they loved God and they fought heroically to follow Him and do as he commanded them, even if it meant they would die or be hurt in doing so.

The Old Testament had many great examples of God calling on people to do as he commanded and they were faithful and followed His words, Noah, Moses, Abraham etc…In one instance, in the book of Daniel (chapter 3), there were three young men, Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael, they loved God so much that they faced a fiery furnace to prove it.
