The Virgin Mary- Theotokos – Mother of God , Panagia (Most Holy)

She was asked by God to bring Christ into the world so that we could all be saved. She obeyed God’s will. She showed humility and obedience.
She is known as “Plantintera ton Ouranon” --More spacious than the heavens.
She is so holy that we have so many feast days for her:

Feb. 2- Christ presentation to the temple 40 days after his birth. (Your mom did this too after you were born—you and your mom received a blessing at church 40 days after you were born too)

March 25 – we celebrate the Annunciation - the day the Virgin Mary was approached by the Archangel Gabriel and was told she would be the mother of Jesus.

August 15- The Dormition of the Theotokos-when Mary died and joined Jesus in heaven.
August 1- 15 we fast for all of those days in honor of the Theotokos

September 8- The Nativity of the Theotokos- Birthday of the Theotokos

November 21 – The Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple.
