Ten Point Program For Orthodox Life

Translating Orthodox Christian Ideals Into Daily Life

Worship

Worship in the Church is an essential part of a life in Christ. The Church is the body of Christ on earth. In the Church we are united with all the angels and saints in our prayer where we all come together to worship God. Along with our personal prayer we need to participate in what is called corporate prayer, or prayer that is offered during a worship service.

We can think of the Church as a spiritual hospital. It is a place for those who are seeking to improve their lives and who desire to come closer to God. The Divine Liturgy provides us with a kind of spiritual medicine, Holy Communion. The Blood and Body of Christ is offered to the members for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. We need to partake of this gift that God offers to us for our spiritual benefit regularly. One of God’s commandments is to participate in worship each Sunday. As we develop our personal prayer life we will not see this as an obligation, but as something that we want and need to do for our spiritual benefit. Make regular attendance at the Divine Liturgy a part of your prayer rule and learn how to properly prepare and participate regularly in the sacraments.
