Sunday Schools
At the time Athenagoras named the site of 15 DeCamp Street for our church location, he also named Reverend Aemil Pouleropoulos as the Priest for Greenville, as well as for Spartanburg and Asheville. This was the beginning of our structured Greenville Sunday School System, since Father Aemil established a Sunday School District comprised of Greenville, Spartanburg, and Asheville, in order to share ideas and develop a viable school system for the three communities. While the three communities were not legally connected and were unified as individuals, they were connected for obvious related advantages, such as Sunday Schools.
Following World War II, the growth of these congregations continued. Each community was regarded separately while continuing relationships with each other. They were known separately as Greenville, Spartanburg, and Asheville Greek Orthodox Communities.
